Dr. Joe McLaughlin is an experimental astroparticle physicist in the research area of dark matter direct detection. He is currently working on the QUantum Enhanced Superfluid Technologies for Dark Matter and Cosmology (QUEST-DMC) experiment, which is one of seven flagship experiments in the Quantum Technologies for Fundamental Physics (QTFP) program. QUEST-DMC uses superfluid helium-3 as a scattering target for extremely rare and low energy events, and is well positioned to be a world leading experiment in the search for low mass dark matter. Dr. McLaughlin’s primary areas of expertise are statistical data analysis, machine learning, silicon photomultipliers (SiPMs), and noble liquid microphysical modelling.
