Wednesday Friday 30 July 2010, 15:00 Speaker: Nigel Smith (Director of SNOLAB) Title: SNOLAB and its programme Abstract: Many areas of particle and astroparticle physics require the quiet environment afforded by deep underground laboratories where cosmic radiation and the byproducts thereof are reduced by many orders of magnitude. The deepest laboratory currently in operation is SNOLAB based at the Creighton mine in Sudbury, Canada. This talk will review the current status of the SNOLAB underground facility, detailing progress in the development of the research infrastructure and outlining the experimental programme.
