Wednesday 08 August 2018 Speaker: Andrey Ustyuzhanin (Yandax School of Data Analysis) Title: "Bridging the gap between scientific research and data science" Advances in the development of data analysis techniques and software gives enough reason to claim those are going to be adopted by any scientific field. The adoption process may differ significantly for various areas, although there are specific patterns that can be spotted. In this discussion, I’m going to cover some of the most notable ones. Explicitly I’d like to focus on trends and challenges for bridging domain-science and data-science communities. Challenge-driven research takes the most impressive position here. Some examples will be showcased on Kaggle or Codalab platforms. I'll provide illustrations from the particle physics field and possible venues for such development as an invitation for a broader discussion with the audience.
