Wednesday 7 March 2018 Speaker: Yvonne Peters (University of Manchester) Title: "Hot TOPics” Abstract: The heaviest known elementary particle, the top quark, has many features that make it interesting as probe for physics beyond the standard model. For example, it's life time i shorter than the time scale for hadronization. Thus, it's spin properties are carried to its decay products, allowing the study of a "bare" quark. Since the top quark's discovery in 1995 by CDF and D0 at the Tevatron, the top quark is under detailed study. With the LHC coming online, a top factory has been opened up, allowing never-before possible precision studies of the top quark. In my talk, I will present a potpourri of recent top physics studies from ATLAS.
