Wednesday 1 April 2015 Speaker: Prof Henning Gast (RWTH Aachen University) Title: "The Alpha Magnetic Spectrometer (AMS-02) on the International Space Station" Abstract: The Alpha Magnetic Spectrometer (AMS-02) is a precision, multi-purpose spectrometer for cosmic rays that was installed on the International Space Station in May 2011. Its high-precision data on the positron and electron fluxes provide detailed insights into the origin and propagation of cosmic rays. The data allow for models of the annihilation of Dark Matter particles in the Galaxy and acceleration of particles at pulsars and their wind nebulae to be tested.
