Wednesday 22 October 2014 Speaker: Ian Tomalin (RAL/PPD) Title: "Searches for long-lived exotic particles at the LHC" Abstract: Long-lived exotic particles feature in many extensions of the standard model, such as supersymmetry and `hidden valley’ models. Finding such particles at in the LHC can be a real challenge, as they would give highly unusual signatures in the detectors. If they do exist, they can hide supersymmetry from conventional searches. — Perhaps that is why no-one has seen it yet!? I will review the searches for long-lived exotic particles at the LHC, examining how well we are exploring the theoretical phase space, and asking where we should strive to make improvements.
