Wednesday 13 July 2011 Speaker: Justin Greenhalgh (Head of Micro and Nanotechnology Centre) Title: “Capabilities and current work of STFC’s Micro and Nanotechnology Centre” Abstract: Justin will describe the capabilities of the MNTC and outline a selection of current and recent work, with plenty of time for questions. Examples of the work include micro cantilevers for walking spacecraft and blood coagulation testing; micro targets for laser science; electrospun fibres with a variety of applications from hydrogen storage to ultra low-mass target supports; microneedles for high electric field generation and mass immunisation; structured metamaterials for plasmonics and photonics; and more. Justin does not aspire to technical expertise in all these fields but will take questions, reserving the right to direct the questioner to the real experts!
