Wednesday 29 June 2011 Speaker: Alfons Weber (RAL/PPD) Title: “News on θ13 from MINOS and T2K” Abstract: Compelling evidence exists for the flavour oscillations of neutrinos, but there remains one mixing angle, theta_13, which has yet to be definitively measured. The T2K and MINOS collaborations recently reported on their nu_e appearance analysis. T2K presented results from the first 2 runs periods using data from 1.43E20 protons on target, and the results provide an indication that this angle is non-zero. MINOS updated their analysis using 8e20 protons on target. A short overview of the experiments and fuller discussion of the results will be presented. Combining the data from the experiments may lead to a 3 sigma discovery of θ13.
