Abstract: A number of Beyond the Standard Model scenarios can lead to physics processes with $\tau$ leptons in the final state. The experimental detection of an excess of such events could indicate the existence of neutral Higgs bosons $h/A/H\rightarrow\tau^+\tau^-$) from the Minimal Supersymmetric extension to the Standard Model (MSSM), charged Higgs bosons $H^{\pm}\rightarrow\tau^{\pm}\nu$,third-generation leptoquarks, or even extra gauge bosons decaying into two $\tau$ leptons such as a $Z^{\prime}$ as predicted by Grand Unified Theories or theories of extra dimensions. The most recent search results from the ATLAS experiment at the Large Hadron Collider (LHC) will be presented.
