Wednesday 27 Oct. 2010 Speaker: Jonathon Butterworth (UCL) Title: Subjet structure as a new search channel at the LHC Abstract: A feature of LHC physics above the electroweak symmetry-breaking scale is that particles with masses around this scale (e.g. W,Z,H,top) can be produced well above threshold. This means that in many important processes they have a considerable boost, and if they decay to hadrons, these hadrons appear in a single jet. Analysing the substructure of this jet is a powerful method for identifying such events. I describe the techniques and their application, especially in WW scattering and in low mass Higgs->bb searches
