Wednesday 3 February 2010 Speaker: David Evans (Univ. of Birmingham) Title: Physics Performance and First Results from the ALICE Experiment at the LHC Abstract: ALICE is an LHC detector designed to study the physics of ultra-relativistic heavy-ion collisions. It's excellent tracking and PID also make it an ideal detector to study the global properties of proton-proton collisions at the LHC. A brief introduction to ALICE physics and some high-lights of results from RHIC will be shown together with the ALICE detector's performance and first results from ALICE.
