Wednesday 23 July 2008 Speaker: Hong-Mo Chan (RAL) Title: A Model Behind the Standard Model Abstract: Tries to understand some of the mysteries behind the Standard Model; e.g. why Higgs, why symmetry-breaking, why fermion generations, why hierarchical masses, and why quark mixings and neutrino oscillations. Gives also some predictions at high energies, including possibly a new field of spectroscopy potentially as rich as that for hadrons. The approach is theoretical, but my aim in the talk is to make it understandable and entertaining to all my experimental colleagues.
